UNDERSTANGING EEOICPA & RECA

 

The Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) and the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) are federal government programs which provide monetary compensation and home healthcare services at NO COST to former government employees who became ill as a result of working in the atomic weapons industry.

 

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR IN-HOME SERVICES

 

Requirements to qualify for in-home healthcare services at no cost:

  • Have been employed at a Department of Energy facility, atomic weapons facility or beryllium facility.

  • Have been diagnosed with an occupational illness.

  • Have been approved for benefits by the Department of Labor.

  • Have medical necessity arising from your approved condition.

 

Eligibility requirements vary by location and condition.

                               

COVERED MEDICAL CONDITIONS

 

Covered medical conditions include (must meet requirements):

  • Radiation-induced cancers

  • Chronic beryllium disease (CBD)

  • Beryllium sensitivity

  • Chronic silicosis

  • Chemically induced illnesses

  • Occupational lung diseases

 

No Cost In-home Services*

  • Professional nursing and caregiving

  • Medical monitoring

  • Bathing and dressing

  • Meal preparation

  • Companionship

  • Medication administration

  • Transportation

  • Assistance with activities of daily living

 

*These in-home services are provided by our staff, but funded by the EEOICPA Program.

 

FAMILY MEMBERS CAN BECOME PAID CAREGIVERS

Under the EEOICPA we can hire spouses and other family members to become paid caregivers for their loved one. In addition to compensation, often times this education provides for much needed peace of mind to spouses and concerned family members.
